The Board of Trustees
Ian Galloway – treasurer
Ian Galloway serves as our Treasurer. A newly published author, Ian works as the Director of the Free Church Track at Cranmer Hall, St John’s College, Durham University, where he lectures and mentors church leaders from across the North. He has been a charity trustee for nearly forty years and was a founding trustee of Action Foundation, a charity serving asylum seekers and refugees, who received the Queens Award for Voluntary Service and won North East Charity of the year. Ian and his wife Heather have five children, six grandchildren and two Labradors. He enjoys walking, writing, scuba-diving, and renovating houses.
Oswald Johnson – trustee
Ossie has represented Burnhope residents , as part of the Lanchester Division, both as District and County Councillor, for over 30 years. He now lives in Lanchester although his family is originally from Burnhope and he has contributed to the villages proud mining heritage.
Alan Gibson BEM – trustee and health and safety lead
Alan is a retired senior fire officer where his roles including Station Manager. He is currently chair of Burnhope Primary School governors. Alan is the trustee lead for health and safety and also helps plan events at the centre. In 2022 Alan was presented with his British Empire Medal for his tireless work for The Fire Fighters Charity. He has lived in Burnhope all of his life and sees Burnhope Community Centre as the hub for the community.
Heather Galloway – trustee and HR lead
Heather Galloway helps to run the Bairns toddler groups at the community centre. She has been a trustee since September 2020 and has responsibility for HR. She is a retired GP who enjoys walking her dogs and spending time with her grandchildren. She’s married to Ian , our treasurer and they moved to the village in January 2020.
Helen Prow – trustee and PR lead
Helen Prow has lived in Burnhope for over 20 years and runs a very successful childminding business called Little Treasures. Helen volunteers for our Burnhope Bairns group and for various events at the Centre. Helen is the trustee lead for publicity by supporting the development of new publicity material and raising our social media profile. Helen has a degree in Supporting Learning in Early Years and has Early Years practitioner status. Helen lives in Burnhope with her husband and three children and enjoys reading, running and spending time with her family.
Lisa Bryson – Burnhope Primary School
Lisa Bryson is the Head Teacher at Burnhope Primary School. She has been in post at Burnhope for 6 years and a teacher for 11 years. Lisa has a degree in dance and studied Musical Theatre in New York City. Originally from New York, she moved to England after meeting her husband (who is English) and has lived here for 21 years! Lisa is a very active person and when not at school, enjoys spending time with her 3 children, walking her 2 dogs or going to the gym.
Marc Cliff – Trustee
Marc is a retired police officer and has lived in the village since 2019. Marc works at at Durham Cathedral supporting events. As a police officer he worked with local people and partner agencies to set up a community speed watch scheme, a wildlife crime prevention project, and a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). He is also trained private pilot and was a semi professional football referee. He lives in the village with Julie, the Community Centre’s Wellbeing Coordinator and their two children Clara who is 5 and Bartie who is 3. He also has a daughter Alicia who is 26.
